One of my co-workers mentioned she went to a carnival over the weekend … Now, if you’re anything like me, then you LOVE carnivals!! What’s there not to love about fun rides, mouth-watering food, and overall merriment!? ..Exactly, nothing! Any day that includes fried deliciousness & twisty rides is a good day -no, a great day by my standards. I went to carnivals all the time growing up and had a ball each time. My absolute favorite part about carnivals (other than the scrambler ride!) is the yummy food. Especially fried dough & donuts! Can you say heaven!? Nom Nom Nom! … I recently attempted to make those delicious pieces of heaven at home while carnival season was on hiatus, and WOW were they amazing! I couldn’t keep this little secret to myself and HAD to share the recipe.
– 1 can of Pillsbury buttermilk biscuits
– Half cup of canola oil
– ¼ cup sugar
– 1 table spoon cinnamon

Pour canola oil in a frying pan and allow oil to heat up. While the oil is heating up, open the can of biscuits, pull them apart and cut out a hole in the center (For a fun twist, I sometimes use a heart shaped cookie cutter . Once oil is up to temperature, carefully place the biscuits in the pan and cook for 3 minutes on each side (or until golden brown). Once the golden brown color is achieved, immediately place your topping of choice … Enjoy!

I made simple cinnamon sugar donuts, but there so many other great possibilities! Try them with peanut butter & jelly, frosting (see below for a vanilla frosting recipe), powdered sugar, or even some sliced fruit! Yum!

Simple Vanilla Frosting

For vanilla icing, whisk together 1/2 cup of confectioners’ sugar, about 1 tablespoons of milk and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a small bowl & 1 tsp softened butter.
