4th of July Getaway – Newport, RI

3 Jul

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’m spending my Fourth of July weekend in Newport, RI. With it’s coastal scenery, astounding architecture, exquisite downtown area, and trendy boutique shops, Newport is one of my favorite weekend destinations.

We spent the first part of day admiring the beautiful sail boats and soaking up some sun.

After hours of sitting in the sun & watching the boats pass, stopping at the wine bar was very necessary. Boyfriend & I are huge wine aficionados and really enjoying trying local wine. Cheers!

Newport is filled with trendy shops full containing Lily Pulitzer, Sperry, The Black Dog, and Vineyard Vines items. I was in bliss while browsing the racks!

I thought it would be a wonderful idea to venture on a 13 miles cliff walk. Looking at our bright smiles these pictures were clearly taken at the beginning of the walk hike (the entire time was spent scaling the rocky coast) …

After the rugged 13 mile cliff walk (and a fractured foot … poor boyfriend!), we took a tour of a few of the mansions (hello, air conditioning!). Learning the background of these historical mansions is fascinating! Reminder to self: A sundress & sandals are not what you wear on a cliff walk …

Towards the end of our cliff walk was this tunnel that led us through the cliff. So cool!

After dinner, we took a ride on the Rum Runner II, a prohibition era motor boat, built solely to smuggle rum to the East Coast from the Caribbean Islands. Yup, you guessed it, unlimited rum for the passengers ;)

The photos speak for themselves … Newport is gorgeous! With all of the beach & boating time, distinctive history & mansion tours, and enticing photo opportunities, Newport was the perfect way to spend my Independence Day weekend!

Hope everyone is having a happy & safe weekend :) What are your weekend plans?
