Summertime Sangria*

23 Jul

To stay cool this weekend ( Holy heatwave! Hello Mother Nature, This is Connecticut, not Texas. Please bring the temperature back to normal.), I created one of my favorite summer time drinks … sangria! Yum! I instantly forgot about the heat as I was concocting this pitcher was fruityness. It’s light and fruity taste is perfect for these warm ridiculously hot summer days.Sangria is one of those things that can be made a thousand different ways and always be delicious. Everyone has their own recipes but here’s one of my traditional recipes:

Fruity Red Sangria
1 bottle of red wine (something you enjoy. I used my fav: Cabernet Sauvignon)
2 large oranges, juiced
1/2 orange, sliced into thin rounds
1-2 limes, juiced (slice a few lime rounds into the pitcher as well)
1 small green apple, diced thin
1 star fruit, sliced
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 raspberries
2 shots of brandy
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 pomegranate juice
1 cup ginger ale

Pour wine into a large pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon, orange and lime into the wine. Toss in the fruit orange rounds, star fruit, and apples (leaving out seeds if possible), add sugar, pomegrante juice, and brandy. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale, berries and ice just before serving.

I love this recipe. And I am kind of a sangria connoisseur. That is, if a connoisseur is defined by how much of something someone drinks.

It may be 8am here in Connecticut, but it’s 5 0′ clock somewhere, so why not try making sangria this weekend?
