Doggie Pupcakes

11 Sep

Dear Preston,

Although it’s been a year since you were running inside in fear of the bees outside or rolling around on the area rugs in attempt to clean your white face after you ate, there isn’t a day where I’m not reminded of your fluffy self. Coming home to you on Christmas Eve was the best surprise and number one on my “Best Gift Received” list. You made me laugh everyday with your goofy Elvis face and the tap dance you would perform letting us know you wanted to go outside. Your human-like personality, adorable underbite, and ability to make everyone smile, made you not just a dog, but a family member. I’m sure you, Timber, and Madison are celebrating your 12th birthday playing with your favorite little monster and eating chorizo (after all, you were a Portugese dog!) Happy birthday, Puppers! We love and miss you!

Call him spoiled, but each year Preston celebrated his birthday with a homemade dog-friendly birthday cake (and of course a doggie sunday from DQ!). In remeberance of his birthday, I couldn’t not make his favorite dog cake. Now, if you knew Preston, you’d remember falling for his heart-breaking puppy eyes and end up giving him half of whatever you were eating, but I’d like to think his annual birthday cake was his favorite.

Now, I know you’re thinking dog cake!? Whats a dog cake? It’s simple, it’s a cake made from ingredients that dogs find irresistible (like peanut butter, chicken, and cheese!) and what you can find in their dog food/treats, Naturally sweet and flavorful, the fur babies in your life will thank you for this!

-1 cup flour
-1 tsp baking soda
-1/4 cup peanut butter
-1/4 cup vegetable oil
-1 cup shredded carrots
-1/3 cup honey
-1 egg
-a splash of chick broth

Mix flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into greased 8″ round cake pan (I opted for mini pupcakes this time) and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Let cool.

To complete the cupcakes, I mixed together some peanut butter and cottage cheese and piped them to onto the cupcakes to resemble frosting and sprinkled some grated cheese on top.

xoxo, frillyfab
